Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his future following another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to change things and get a victory obviously but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He added, “I accept my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “Through standard discussions I sense the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Problems and Squad Reaction
The manager expressed regret over known shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period such as this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones finished, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to battle.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
