Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where his condition is described as critical but stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, hearing him speak, his attitude was encouraging. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD issued surveillance images Monday of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.

The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday in the area between MSG and Times Square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was admitted to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his wife just had a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“There’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd hasn’t played during the current season, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on mid-August with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.

Boyd came to New York as a new signing in spring and was projected as a key part of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a practice session on 2 August and was carted from the field.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while working his way back.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of UT in 2019. He joined Arizona in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with New York in March.
