Martínez Brace Ensures Inter Milan in Pursuit of Frontrunners
Inter striker Lautaro Martínez netted a late brace to secure his team a 2-0 victory at Pisa, keeping the visitors firmly engaged in the Italian league championship battle despite a somewhat shaky display.
League Table Update
Led by Cristian Chivu, Inter currently are placed third in the standings with 27 points total, tied with second-placed Roma and just one point adrift of leaders Milan. In contrast, Pisa hold the third bottom position with 10 points.
Match Recap
Inter traveled in Tuscany looking to return to winning ways after suffering a loss to rivals by Milan last weekend, which was followed by a Champions League defeat at Atlético Madrid. However, they were made to battle all the way by newly-promoted Pisa. The home team created plenty of opportunities, but a clinical Inter broke the deadlock in the 69th minute when Argentine Martínez smacked a one-time shot into the roof of the net. The forward then tapped in from point-blank with seven minutes remaining.
The team’s ability to convert despite difficult circumstances proved decisive in securing the victory.
