A 60-day journey through the Land Down Under was terminated in the wake of the death of an elderly woman who was abandoned by the vessel on a distant island.

Suzanne Rees had been walking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the vessel, but separated from the party for a rest. The liner departed without her and returned after some time after the crew realised the lady was unaccounted for.

An extensive hunt found her remains the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the incident, in coordination with investigators and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the shipping company stated that travelers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the rest of the voyage had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and prior engine troubles".

Via official communication, he further stated that guests would be given a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the passengers via chartered flights".

Authorities also issued an revised announcement, and said they had "issued a order to the Captain" banning any new passengers from boarding the vessel.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the liner in Cairns upon its arrival.
