The Details Known Concerning the Those Lost of the Bondi Beach Shooting
At least 16 individuals perished and over 40 were hurt when assailants fired on a Hanukah event at Bondi Beach, a tragedy Australian police have labeled a act of terrorism.
In the latest update, authorities have confirmed the number of fatalities remains at 16, encompassing one of the suspected attackers. Moreover, 42 injured people were admitted to the hospital.
Those who died are still awaiting publicly named, but authorities state their ages are from 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger
Originally from London clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.
Described as a father of five children, he was the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and acquaintances described him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very warm outgoing person who loved to help people”.
“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a relative said.
Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their youngest child in October.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, as stated by his wife.
She recounted the moments before the attack, saying they had been standing together when the shooting erupted. “He moved to protect me because he wanted to stay near me,” she stated.
The couple were both survivors of the Holocaust, having endured immense hardship in their youth. They had later immigrated to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
French authorities have announced that French man Dan Elkayam is among the victims.
Officially, a senior official expressed that France shared the grief of his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This low act is a new, tragic manifestation of a disgusting rise of antisemitic hatred that we must put a stop to,” the message continued.
One Child
A 10-year-old girl who was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital succumbed to her injuries, according to police reports.
One Israeli Citizen
One victim from Israel was among those killed during the attack, as per multiple sources citing the Israeli government.
Those Injured
From the 42 people taken to hospital, many are still receiving treatment, with a number in a critical state. The injured comprise two officers who attended the scene.
One of the injured is a bystander who rushed to the scene to confront one of the gunmen. Called a local hero, he received bullet wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. Reports indicate he was hurt and is receiving treatment in hospital.
In a message, he recounted the incident as an “utter carnage,” but also praised the actions of those who came to assist. He stated he felt it was a “stroke of luck” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was another casualty in the attack. He told reporters he heard “a large number” of gunshots.
“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
