The network's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Gets a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel introduced a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about observing this endearing family go about their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to evolve comedy past its current cynical streak. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to bask in the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
